Arsenal open talks with Birmingham star Dann

Arsenal have opened talks with Birmingham defender Scott Dann.

Gunners fans have been calling for a new central defensive signing all summer, and manager Arsene Wenger has been linked with big money moves for Bolton’s Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka of Everton.

But the Frenchman now appears to have identified Dann as the man he wants to play alongside Thomas Vermaelen in the heart of his defence.

Stoke and Liverpool have both been linked with the 24-year-old, who has been at Birmingham for two years, but the north Londoners have now jumped to the head of the queue as they seek to conclude the deal before their season opener at Newcastle on Saturday.
